7.  TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS

When, where, and how I met this standard

a.  Understand the equity, ethical, legal, social, physical, and psychological issues surrounding the use of technology in K-12 schools and apply those principles in practice;

Applying

Plans activities and assignments that consistently address the equity, ethical, legal, social, physical, and psychological issues, including internet safety, surrounding the use of technology.

For one of the lessons in my Unit Plan that I taught during my student teaching, the main objective was to teach the students the importance of finding and using credible sources for research and to not believe everything they see on the internet.  I did this by showing them “Save the Tree Octopus” site and then later proving to them that it was all a hoax.1

b.  Successfully complete and reflect upon collaborative online learning experiences;

Participates in specialized learning communities in content areas, uses and evaluates professional development resources within and outside the district, and regularly seeks online opportunities for improvement.

During my student teaching, the district was in the process of switching over to a new website, so during an inservice day I had training on how to create a page and maneuver around the site.

For my English 348 class at Albion, I participated in Online Forums with other students in my class.  We were able to collaboratively discuss the readings without actually sitting in class.

c.  Demonstrate an understanding of and the ability to create an online learning experience, and demonstrate continued growth in knowledge of technology operations, resource evaluation for quality, objectivity, and reliability and concepts including strategies for teaching and learning in an online environment;

Effectively creates and uses a variety of online resources to individualize instruction and enhance teaching and learning in the classroom.

The Unit Plan I created and taught during my student teaching involved an online learning environment.  I was through the school’s website and included worksheets the students did, example papers, and a list of the topics the students had picked to research with links to websites they could use to do research.

d.  Plan, design, and evaluate effective technology-enhanced learning environments and experiences aligned with Michigan’s Content Standards and Grade Level Content Expectations and Michigan Educational Technology Standards for each student;

Implements and evaluates the technology-enhanced learning environment to help all students meet curriculum expectations.

The Unit Plan I created and taught during my student teaching involved an online learning environment.  I was through the school’s website and included worksheets the students did, example papers, and a list of the topics the students had picked to research with links to websites they could use to do research.  It successfully helped them met the 3rd grade  writing GLCE’s of writing and presenting a research paper as well as a few of the science GLCE’s about organism characteristics and their habitats.

e.  Implement curriculum plans that include effective technology-enhanced methods and strategies to maximize student learning;

Implements and adapts technology-enhanced curriculum plans to differing learning needs.

During my student teaching, I used ExamView Assessment Suite, Star Reader tests, and Accelerated Reader tests to evaluate my students progress in reading comprehension and grammar skills.  Students were able to go at their own pace and were not limited by their writing ability.

f.  Apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies; and

Uses assessment results to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and to modify teaching strategies and plans accordingly.

 

During my student teaching, I used ExamView Assessment Suite, Star Reader tests, and Accelerated Reader tests.  I also had the students use Microsoft Word to type sentences that portray the meaning of their spelling words each week, and had them using the computer to do research and write a research paper.  All of the different work they produced allowed me to assess their learning in terms of reading, writing, and science concepts, and independent work capabilities.

g.  Use technology to engage in ongoing professional development, practice, productivity, communication, and life-long learning.

Includes in own IPDP, the use of technologies and online learning experiences.  Applies learning to improve practice.

For my student teaching, I created an online digital portfolio and reflective portfolio.
