Reflections on Experience

My student teaching experience at Walter’s Elementary provided me with such insights and knowlege on teaching.  It gave me a chance to grow confident in the classroom and gain insights on the different learning styles of students.  I was extremely fortunate to have such a supportive mentor teacher and staff that guided me through my struggles and low points.  I have come out of my student teaching experience a better person.  I have gained knowlege and experiences that are hard to describe.  I am better aware of who I am as a person and can see what type of teacher I am developing into.  I have learned so much about myself through student teaching.  I have also learned how important it is to make connections with students. This is the main idea I have taken away from student teaching.  Understanding who your students are and what learning styles fit them best is essential.

“When I do not know myself, I cannot know who my students are.  I will see them through a glass darkly, in the shadows of my unexamined life–and when i cannot see them clearly I cannot teach them well.” Parker Palmer

The students made me a letter and they all signed it.  They also made me cupcakes, which were quite delicious!  It meant a lot to me that they cared about me leaving, because I was sure sad to do so.  I made wonderful connections with the students in my classroom and as being my first class, I will truly remember them forever.
