What is Maymester?

The collaboration project, Boundary Crossings into the Elementary and Secondary Schools, known more commonly as “Maymester,” is a unique enrichment opportunity shared by the Albion Public Schools (APS) and the Albion College Teacher Education Program/Shurmur Education Institute. Each year, Maymester involves APS teachers, approximately 25 Albion College teacher education students, and nearly half the APS student body.

Maymester is created each year by an APS/Albion College Teacher Education Program/Shurmur Institute team which develops a new themed curriculum for use across the K-12 grade levels. Shurmur Institute’s prospective teachers work under the guidance of APS faculty, to teach the lessons through a classroom immersion experience, providing valuable preparation for their future student teaching assignments.

I completed my Maymester during the Spring/Summer of 2009 at Albion High School with the help of Mrs. Kimberly Waito. I taught 9-12th graders Social Studies.
