The Three Branches

Posted in | Comments Off on The Three Branches

We have learned that our government is divided into three branches.  This separation of power makes sure that one branch of government does not get too powerful.  The legislative branch is made up of two parts, the House of Representatives and the Senate.  Their job is to make our laws.  The judicial branch has the responsibility of settling any disagreements about our laws.  We have a Michigan Supreme Court that is run by our seven justices as well as many local courts around the state.  The executive branch is run by the governor.  Their job is to make sure our rules and laws are being enforced.  Michigan has a representative government because we are able to vote for the people who are going to represent us in our government.  We vote for our governor, justices, senators, and representatives.
