7.  TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS

Use of technological tools, operations, and concepts to enhance learning, personal/professional productivity, and communication, including the ability to:

a.  Understand the equity, ethical, legal, social, physical, and psychological issues surrounding the use of technology in K-12 schools and apply those principles in practice;

This substandard addresses the teacher’s ability to plan activities and assignments that consistently address the equity, ethical, legal, social, physical, and psychological issues surrounding the use of technology.

During my Maymester experience, I used YouTube.com clips to give my students a better representation and example of various bird calls and frog ribbits in our “Music in Nature” unit. I made sure, the night before each lesson, to re-check my YouTube links, watch the clips in full, check other materials posted by the same user name, and save the links in a notepad document to use during the lesson plan. Never would I randomly search for an item during a lesson plan or during down time in their classroom (a 1st through 5th grade special education classroom) without first doing the research listed above.
