5. RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATIONSHIPS TO THE SCHOOL, CLASSROOM, AND STUDENT

f.   Involve and work effectively with parents/guardians and implement school-wide parent involvement plans to maximize opportunities for student achievement and success;

This substandard addresses the teacher’s ability to consistently involve, communicate, and work with parents and guardians to maximize student achievement and success. For the band director, this means taking an active role in the band boosters.

Band Boosters are an organization formed by the band program for band parents. Having a student in the band program automatically makes you a member of the band boosts. However, it is on the parent to how active an role they take in the band boosters. The primary objective for the band boosters is to provide a volunteer base and fund-raising opportunities for the band students and the program. Band Boosters often run the concessions for school sporting events, collecting a profit to aid students in their band-related expenses (such as band camp or touring performances). While the Band Boosters support a committee with a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer (as well as any other additional posts, such as Historian or Events Coordinator), it is the responsibility of the band director to be present at every meeting, activity participate in the financial decisions of the band boosters, and give their professional input when applicable.
