Substandard D

5. RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATIONSHIPS TO THE SCHOOL, CLASSROOM, AND STUDENT

Systematic reflection to organize and improve teaching and develop effective relationships, including the ability to:

d. Analyze the effects of teacher dispositions, decisions, and actions upon others (e.g., families, other personnel, and all students, including those with disabilities) and adjust interactions accordingly;

This substandard addresses the teacher’s ability to┬ámonitor┬áthe effects of their own dispositions, decisions, and actions upon others.

One of the things that I did while I was student teaching to monitor my progress and effectiveness as a teacher was to write weekly journals. In these journals, I would write and speak to my strengths, weaknesses, and next steps. As a post-student teaching activity, I reflected on all of these journals and picked examples for three of the journals to really focus on how I have grown as an educator.

Since I am not comfortable posting the reflection portfolio in a public forum as this, please email me if you are interested in hearing more about the processes which I followed in keeping my weekly journals.
