Management and monitoring of time, relationships, students, and classrooms to enhance learning, including the ability to:

h. Differentiate between assessment and evaluation procedures and use appropriately.

This substandard addresses the teacher’s ability to regularly collect informal and formal assessments and evaluate the progress of the students in their classroom. Luckily, for music teachers, this happens on a daily basis. Like so many of the substandards I have reflected on already, the implication of sectionals, break-down rehearsals, guest conductors, differentiated rehearsal tactics, and so forth can prove immensely beneficial in evaluating the current musicality of your students and creating grade-level appropriate assessments.
