Standard 6:

 

Responsibilities and Relationships to the Greater Community-

Explanation of when/where/how I met the appropriate level of mastery

a. Understand the structure, function , purpose, and value of education and schools in a free, democratic, and pluralistic society;

I have attended Albion Public Schools board meetings and I also support Jackson Northwest by attending school sponsored events.

b. Synthesize a teacher’s role in a changing society with the evolution of education foundations and policy perspectives;

In my secondary education student teaching seminar we have discussed the evolution of a teachers role in the classroom.

c. Demonstrate an understanding of and participate in related organizations and activities in the communities in which the teacher works;  

I have supported the athletic teams of Jackson Northwest High through attending games and fundraisers. I supported the community by donating to the adopt a family program.  

d. Use community and home resources to  enhance school programs and instruction;

e. Design learning activities for students that involve volunteer groups, civic and social organizations, and relevant public service agencies, and  

In my government class, my students created posters that encouraged adults in the community to go out and vote during the 2008 election.

f. Participate with professional educators, school personnel, and other stakeholders in collaborative and cooperative planning, decision-making, and implementation, to improve educational systems at all levels.
